On August 20, 2025 the South Dakota Aeronautics Commission approved the reallocation of $762,000 in state terminal improvement funds under Senate Bill 144.
SB 144, passed in 2024, created a $10 million program to support airport terminal projects across South Dakota. Airports were required to secure federal grant approval by September 30, 2025, or forfeit eligibility.
The Commission based the reallocation on each airport’s original request size. The result: $348,482 for Sioux Falls and $413,518 for Rapid City.
The original allocations were as follows:
Aberdeen: $1,2000,000Hot Springs: $27,000
Rapid City: $3,047,126
Sioux Falls: $2,561,801
Spearfish: $1,319,073
Sturgis: $210,000Tea: $735,000
Watertown: $900,000
Hot Springs and Tea ultimately forfeited their awards, $27,000 and $735,000, respectively, for a combined $762,000 that returned to the Commission and reallocated to FSD and RAP.
